Kyle Smith

Kyle is an aluminium rolling expert and our Process Improvement Group Leader.

He has almost 30 years’ experience in rolling plant optimisation, and he’s worked in world-class mills all over the world.

Kyle holds a degree in Metallurgy and Engineering Materials from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. From university he joined the Alcan Laboratories in Banbury, UK, and has now worked in the industry as an aluminium rolling expert for 25 years.

Kyle’s expertise lies in profile control, flatness and gauge control, and throughput optimisation. He also designs cooling systems using spray thermal modelling. Kyle’s extensive experience of modelling stems from the application of process models on-line and off-line in Alcan plants.

Aside from his process improvement work, Kyle organises and manages our Aluminium Rolling Technology Course. As an aluminium rolling expert, he teaches on it as well. Kyle is an IOM3 Bulk Metal Forming Committee Member and Conference Organiser too.
