01709 724300Ioannis is part of our Process Improvement Team. He has a broad materials and manufacturing background and specializes in thermo-mechanical processing of metallic materials, distortion control in manufacturing, and stress analysis and engineering.
Ioannis has a diverse background in Engineering with a PhD from the University of Sheffield in Materials Science and Engineering. He has more than 10 years of experience in R&D of materials, processing of materials and manufacturing working for the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) at Glasgow, UK.
Ioannis started his career at the AFRC as a Materials and Stress Engineer working with residual stresses and their measurement, prediction, and control as part of the management and mitigation of distortion and failure during machining, welding and/or additive manufacturing. He soon became the Theme(/Group) Lead in Materials Modelling, simulating various manufacturing processes around forging, forming and welding, and the impact of process conditions and schedules in the evolution of microstructure, mechanical properties, and residual stresses.
Later, he also took over the Residual Stress and Stress Engineering Theme(/Group) leading, while ultimately becoming the Lead for the entire Materials Group. Towards, his later years at the AFRC, Ioannis led the developments in Industry 4.0 and Digitalization of Manufacturing with significant contributions in connectivity, data acquisition and management, and design, control, and verification of processes through Digital Twins.
Ioannis joined us as a Process Engineer/Technologist. This involves developing modelling tools suitable for the shopfloor, simulating complex manufacturing process, and assessing process performance and product integrity, as well as going on site visits for process support and facilitating/validating the attainment of performance guarantees.
Ioannis joined Innoval in November 2025 as part of the Process Improvement Group where he works on the design and optimization of thermo-mechanical processes including hot rolling, machining and welding of aluminium structural components for civil, automotive, and aerospace applications.
